As the "model minority," Asian Americans take on a special role in the black-white paradigm within the US. As explained by the diagram above, Asian Americans are associated with positive values such as education, family life, and hard work. However, with society, they are always perceived as the perpetual outsider or foreigner, never being able to shake off questions of their "origin" despite major Asian American immigration tracing back to the 1800's.
